Bilbao is the largest city in the Basque region and its principal industrial centre. With a combination of industrial and post modernist architecture, the city has been greatly improved with an urban development scheme.
The heart of the city is the medieval alleys and lanes of the Casco Viejo, which houses numerous tapas bars and shops. Further attractions include the UNESCO World Heritage site of Puente Colgante, the fine art museum and the futuristic metro system designed by Sir Norman Foster.
