The second world war concentration camps of Oswiecim (Auschwitz) and neighbouring Birkenau are located 70km from Krakow. A visit to the camps brings home the horrors of Nazi rule and the Holocaust perhaps more than anywhere else in the world. Auschwitz was the Nazi’s largest extermination camp where millions perished in gas chambers or through disease and starvation.
Take a walking tour of Warsaw's historical Old Town, a listed Unesco world heritage site, which has undergone somewhat of a transformation in recent years. Or wander round Wilanów Palace and Park.
Situated on the banks of the Wisla River and not far from the Tatra Mountains, this old medieval city has plentiful monasteries, churches and abbeys to admire.
Here you will find wild bison roaming. The forest is also home to 120 species of birds, along with wolves, elks and wild boar.
