Leave Nairobi for the Aberdare region, known as the place where a young Queen Elizabeth first learnt she had ascended to the throne. Lunch at Aberdare Country Club, then proceed to Aberdare National Park for wildlife viewing en route to your lodge. One of the country’s oldest reserves, this park safeguards rare alpine forests featuring centuries-old cedars and camphors. It is home to African elephants, black rhinos, spotted hyenas, leopards, colobus monkeys and many more creatures worth spotting. Overnight at The Ark Lodge. (B, L, D)

Drive to Ol Pejeta via Nanyuki. Ol Pejeta, a pristine ‘Big Five’ conservation area, is home to a variety of rare species, such as black and white rhinos, African wild dogs and Grevy’s zebras.
