Perth is the largest city in Western Australia – the country’s largest state – and the entry point for most visitors to the west coast. Cruise the Swan River, visit Rottnest Island and its pristine waters and beaches, learn about the European history of the area or look for the rare quokka, a small kangaroo-like marsupial.
South of the city lies the port town of Fremantle, and in the far south-west corner discover the spectacular coastline and vineyards of the Margaret River region. The area produces 20% of the country’s finest wines, despite contributing just 1% to Australia’s total wine production.
