Last update: 6 January 2022
On the 4 October 2021, the rules for international travel to England changed from the red, amber, green traffic light system to a single red list of countries and simplified travel measures for arrivals from the ‘rest of the world’. The rules for travel from countries and territories not on the red list will depend on your vaccination status. More information can be found here.
This updated system is applicable only for your return to England, a country’s status can change and each country will also have its own entry requirements. Please familiarise yourself with these requirements before you travel at the FCDO website here or speak to your travel specialist for more details. Please note there may be different rules applying to entry to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland so it is prudent to check each of the relevant government’s sites for the latest advice.
Here is a useful tool from Visa Central that provides information on entering countries, as well as providing re-entry information for returning to your country of origin. In addition, it gives a brief summary of the in-country experience relating to local COVID-19 restrictions. Please also speak to one of our Travel Specialists if you require further assistance.
The following countries or territories have been moved to the ‘rest of the world’ list by the UK government. From 4am, Friday 7 January if you qualify as fully vaccinated for travel to England, you do not need to take a COVID-19 test before you travel to England or quarantine when you arrive in England. Additionally from Sunday 9 January, if you qualify as fully vaccinated for travel to England, you can choose to take a lateral flow test instead of a PCR test after you arrive in England.
If you take a lateral flow test and test positive, you will need to self-isolate and take a free confirmatory PCR test. You must book the test before you travel to England. Full details can be found here.
Each country will also have its own entry requirements. Make sure you have familiarised yourself with these requirements before you travel at the FCDO website here or speak to your travel specialist for more details.
