The four-star Zumit hotel is centrally located in Tripoli's medina, beside the Arch of Marcus Aurelius, and very close to one of the city's many mosques. The traditional building dates back to the Ottoman period and has been lovingly restored to keep as many of the original features as possible. As a result, in places there are low ceilings, uneven floors and steps, and there is no lift, but this adds to the charm and character of the property, which is found in very few hotels in Libya.
The 10 rooms and 4 suites, located around the two-storey courtyard, are traditionally designed in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Many feature vaulted ceilings, elevated Libyan beds and artefacts from across the country. Suites benefit from being a little larger in size than the standard rooms. Breakfast is served in the courtyard and the restaurant serves Tripolian meals in the traditional way. Other hotel facilities include a coffee house, Arabic lounge and Internet room.
