Cox & Kings’ roots stretch all the way back to our establishment by Richard Cox on 21st July 1758. The company evolved from its original purpose providing logistical support for army regiments, through banking and shipping, to its current role making often complex arrangements for discerning travellers.
As custodians of this extraordinary heritage, the current team understands that we have a lot to live up to. Our customers, meanwhile, rightly have higher expectations of Cox & Kings service.

Experience counts for a lot. Years of taking detailed research trips, speaking to local experts on the ground and, not least, getting invaluable feedback from our clients means that we bring unsurpassed expertise to designing touring itineraries, whether for groups or individuals.
Our experienced product team design our group tour itineraries, ensuring they are well paced and chock-full of interest. Our itineraries typically combine iconic sights with lesser known gems, as well as opportunities to meet the locals and enjoy authentic tastes of local culture. Getting the balance right between including plenty of organised sightseeing while allowing enough free time to either relax or explore under your own steam is an art that we are continually striving to perfect. Typically our tours include high quality hotels and, for us, the location is as important as the linen and plunge pools. So, in towns and cities we generally choose properties in interesting areas and with good dining options outside the hotel.
For private touring, our one of expert travel consultants will guide you through the planning form beginning to end, designing the perfect itinerary for you taking into account your interests, preferences, dates, and budget.
All Cox & Kings holidays are adventures, however, we take the stress out of even the most complicated travel arrangements; allowing you to enjoy all the pleasures of discovering new places without the time consuming research, hassles on the ground, or the anxieties if something goes wrong.
Most of our holidays visit countries with less developed infrastructure than we are used to at home; strange cuisines that can take some adapting to; and languages that we cannot begin to understand. Such worries are easily dealt with on a Cox & Kings trip. On arrival in the destination you will be met by a local guide / tour manager, taken to your hotel, helped with check-in and have any questions answered. Along the way you will not need to queue for tickets or to enter most sites; you will be guided by English-speaking experts; and you can get advice on where and what to eat, what to wear and how to avoid the dreaded social faux pas! There is always someone on hand to ensure your holiday runs as smoothly as possible.
For many people it is the prospect of visiting iconic sights such as the Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu or Petra that is a primary inspiration for visiting a country. At Cox & Kings, while we will always include great landmarks in our itineraries, we are also aware that it is unexpected experiences that so often turn out to be the highlights of a trip and that generate the most lasting memories. While the best known sites are often magnets for tourists from around the world, we are always seeking out lesser known gems, following back roads and researching opportunities to encounter local people going about their everyday lives.
Cox & Kings has always been a pioneering company and we are no less curious about the world around us now than when we started.
By its nature, high quality travel is not cheap, however that does not mean that it cannot be good value for money.
If you compare like with like, taking into account the standard of accommodation used (not just star ratings, but locations as well); all the sightseeing and experiences included in the itinerary; the quality of the planning; the support on the ground; and, for group tours, the size of the groups, Cox & Kings holidays consistently offer market-leading value for money.
We have highlighted the standard of accommodation featured on a tour immediately above the tour itinerary.
In some cases, tours include some departures in one category and some in another: you can see and select the different tour types under ‘tour variations’. For these tours, the itinerary is generally the same and just the standard of accommodation varies. However, if there are any variations in the excursions included, these are shown within the itinerary.
Superior: Most Cox & Kings tours fall under this category and are based in 4- or 5-star accommodation, or the best available.
Luxury: These tours will usually feature 5-star de luxe accommodation throughout.
Standard: Simpler in emphasis, these itineraries typically feature 3- and 4-star accommodation throughout.
Discovery: This type of holiday is best suited to the hardier traveller, as it will typically include some quite basic accommodation, possibly longer and rougher road journeys and, in some cases, more arduous activities, such as trekking.
