Private travel holidays include pre-designed, privately guided travel itineraries (often also available on a group basis) as well as tailor-made arrangements, in which a bespoke holiday itinerary is created as per your wishes.
Our set itineraries may be treated as a suggestion with a price, which can be amended to suit your own interests and requirements. All journeys are available for any number of guests and most are available for any day of departure.
Cox & Kings has a wide range of suggested itineraries available – choose from family friendly holidays, self-drive itineraries, cruises, rail journeys, food itineraries, short breaks and resort-based holidays for pure relaxation.
We are also delighted to arrange honeymoons – indeed, anything that takes your fancy, as all can be amended as you desire.
These tours operate exactly as per escorted group tours, except that there is no airport representation in the UK and, rather than being accompanied throughout by a tour manager, travellers are locally escorted in each city / destination (except on self-drives).
Support on the ground: On arrival and at each new destination on your journey, you will normally be met at the airport, station or quay by a Cox & Kings representative, who will accompany you to your hotel, help you check in and confirm the itinerary for your stay. You will be given the contact numbers of all the relevant Cox & Kings representatives, ensuring the independence and privacy of your private tour go hand in hand with safety and support.
Flexible road journeys: For all road journeys, you will have your own car / minivan and driver. This allows you to travel in comfort and to stop off along the way if you see something of interest, want to take a photograph or would like a break. Most cars used are air conditioned, but you will be told in advance should air-conditioned cars not be available for any section of your journey. The itineraries for all of our private tours can be adjusted at the planning stage to suit particular interests and preferences.
Private guides: All sightseeing excursions are accompanied by your own private English-speaking guide. This means that you can ask as many or as few questions as you like and take sightseeing trips at your own pace, with the emphasis on your own particular interests. Having your own guide brings places to life in a way that guidebooks never can and also allows you to find out more about the real lives and cultures of local people.
Accommodation flexibility: If you would like to stay in any hotels other than those featured in the tour itinerary, or if you would like to alter the standard of your room, your travel consultant can discuss the options with you and let you know about the price differential prior to booking.
Tailor your itinerary: For those who prefer to travel at their own pace or who wish to explore places not included in the brochure itineraries, Cox & Kings has many years of experience organising tailor-made holidays. In addition, our expert travel consultants will be delighted to suggest ideas to complement your own and to organise the most appropriate programme to suit your interests, time and budget.
Availability: Cox & Kings cannot hold allocations for all private travel services year round and, as a result, all services are subject to availability. If any element of your private itinerary is not available at the time of booking, Cox & Kings will suggest the most comparable alternative available.
The transfers and excursions relevant to that itinerary are operated on a group basis with other passengers who may or may not be Cox & Kings clients.
We have highlighted the standard of accommodation featured on a tour immediately above the tour itinerary. In some cases, tours include some departures in one category and some in another: you can see and select the different tour types under ‘tour variations’.
For these tours, the itinerary is generally the same and just the standard of accommodation varies. However, if there are any variations in the excursions included, these are shown within the itinerary.
Superior: Most Cox & Kings tours fall under this category and are based in 4- or 5-star accommodation, or the best available.
Luxury: These tours will usually feature 5-star de luxe accommodation throughout. Standard: Simpler in emphasis, these itineraries typically feature 3- and 4-star accommodation throughout.
Discovery: This type of holiday is best suited to the hardier traveller, as it will typically include some quite basic accommodation, possibly longer and rougher road journeys and, in some cases, more arduous activities, such as trekking.
As the cost of maintaining a room for one person can be almost as high as it is for two, most hotels around the world charge more per person for a single-occupancy room than for a shared twin room. In addition, many single-occupancy rooms are the same as twin / double rooms. Our Single Travellers group tours, however, do not include any single supplements.
Most Cox & Kings holidays are based on flights from London Heathrow or Gatwick and, in most cases, it is possible to connect with those flights from regional British airports for a small supplement. In addition, Cox & Kings can offer favourable prices for upgrading to Premium Economy, Business and First Class.
