Accessed via a light aircraft flight from Anchorage, the Katmai National Park is home to more than 2,200 brown bears. Every year millions of salmon migrate from the Bering Sea into the waterways of the national park, providing a great food source to the largest population of brown bears in the world. Take a day trip from Anchorage to see bears catching salmon as they travel along Brooks river and Brooks Falls. There are two viewing platforms at the site to enable good views of the bears, with park rangers on hand to answer questions. For those wanting to spend longer watching this incredible sight, Brooks Lodge offers basic accommodation.
