In its long and eventful history, the underrated destination of Tunisia has been occupied and influenced by Romans, Phoenicians and Arabs. The country today is home to eight Unesco world heritage sites, and some of North Africa’s most impressive ruins; including the city of Kairouan and its great mosque built in 670AD.
