Lima lies on the Pacific coast and offers some of Peru’s finest museums and monuments, as well as its best cuisine and nightlife. Highlights include the Plaza de Armas, a Unesco World Heritage Site around which stand the Government Palace, Cathedral and Town Hall, the city’s many colonial mansions and the San Francisco Church. “The City of Kings” was built in the grand style of aristocratic Spain with splendid and ornate architecture, large plazas and broad avenues. The city today retains much of its colonial charm with some fine churches, cathedrals and parks.
