Posada Amazonas is a lodge owned jointly by Rainforest Expeditions and the Ese-Eja community of Infierno Tambopata. It is situated on a 20 sq km private reserve, adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve, 2 hours by road and boat from Puerto Maldonado. The comfortable, rustic rooms are constructed with natural locally sourced materials such as wood, palm fronds, wild cane and clay. Each room is designed with an open side, which acts as a large window and keeps rooms well ventilated and the suites offer ceiling fans. Buffet-style meals featuring Peruvian and international cuisine are served in the lodge's dining area.
The lodge has limited electricity, which is available three times a day in rooms and common areas (6-8am; midday-2pm; 5-10pm). A generator is turned on once a day to recharge batteries for guests or lodge facilities. Communications are powered by solar energy and Wi-Fi is available in the evenings. It is recommendable to bring a torch.
Shared excursions include explorations of the rainforest, clay licks, waterways and oxbow lakes by canoe or on foot. Wildlife you may see includes red howler monkeys, parrots, macaws, toucans, sloths, black caimans and giant river otters. There is a canopy tower and an ethno-botanical trail. Visits can also be made to the local community and school.
