The region of Mindo lies within the protected Mindo-Nambillo forest, located approximately two hours drive to the northwest of Quito. Mindo cloud forest is home to an incredible diversity of avian fauna, particularly hummingbirds, as well as butterflies. This area of primary forest has immense biodiversity including many endemic plant species; orchids, bromeliads, heliconias, ferns, vines, mosses and lichens grow in abundance here
