Mama Ruisa is a charming six-room boutique hotel located in the Santa Teresa District of Rio. This district is the hilly bohemian part of Rio, favoured by the city's artists. It is not close to the beach but is an escape from the busy and cluttered high rise area around Copacabana. The hotel is owned and run by Frenchman Jean-Michel Ruis and he maintains the historic feel of this former colonial aristocrat's home, adding modern facilities and touches. Each room is bright and airy, with distinctive original features. There is a good sized pool and garden, breakfast is often served on the veranda with views towards Sugar Loaf, lunch and dinner are available with prior notice and afternoon tea is served. Moreover, the owner and staff are always on hand with attentive service and insider tips on things to see and do in Rio.
