Near El Calafate, the immense blue wall of the advancing Perito Moreno glacier provides an awe-inspiring spectacle of ever-changing shades and thunderous breaking ice. Hike the sculpted surface, take in astonishing views from panoramic walkways or sail in front of the towering wall. Full day and overnight boat trips past drifting icebergs can also be arranged to the breathtaking Upsala and Onelli glaciers. To the north and surrounded by glaciers, the striking granite massif of Mount Fitzroy rises near El Chaltén, providing excellent hiking opportunities in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings.

El Calafate is a small town situated on the southern shore on Lago Argentino. It is often referred to as "Los Glaciares" (the glaciers) as a vast ice sheet covers much of it. In 1973, the National Park Los Glaciares was created in order to preserve this vast glacial area, with its towering mountains, clear lakes, and the massive glaciers descending from the Andes. Because of its location, El Calafate is the ideal starting point from which to discover the wonders of this Patagonian region. You can enjoy the panoramic views from the walkways at Perito Moreno, take a boat and cruise in front of the glacier wall or get even closer minitreking on the glacier itself.Alternatively explore the dramatic peaks, lakes and forests in the area of Chalten at the foothils of Mt Fitz Roy
El Chalten is a small village situated in the northern sector of Los Glaciares National Park. It is Argentina's youngest town, and was actually founded in 1985 to secure the land during a border dispute with Chile. Today the village, which is overlooked by the towering Fitzroy range, attracts hikers and mountaineers from all over the world
