This remote archipelago, with an intriguing and turbulent history, can be visited as part of an Antarctic voyage or on its own from Chile.
Vast open spaces and pristine shorelines are home to a fascinating array of sub-Antarctic life, including elephant seals, rockhopper, king, gentoo, Magellanic and macaroni penguins, and a host of Southern Ocean bird species.
Highlights include Sea Lion and Pebble Island, the small capital of Stanley with brightly painted houses, and Saunders Island, with its sizable colony of black-browed albatrosses.

Volunteer Point, named after the ship Volunteer, has the largest King penguin colony in the Islands. Around 1,300 adults rear 400 chicks each year. Over 1,000 pairs of Gentoo penguins are resident all year round at Volunteer Point, and many other bird species have been recorded in the area, such as several breeding pairs of Falkland skua who target the penguins eggs and young.
See the Stanley Battlefields
Visit a number of battle sites such as Tumbledown, Mount Kent, Two Sisters and Wireless Ridge. In the final days of the 1982 conflict, the British army advanced towards Stanley and were met by entrenched Argentinian positions established on the ring of hills surrounding the capital.
Visit Sea Lion Island
Most of the island is wild, with extensive areas of tussac grass where birds thrive and elephant seals sleep. There are long sandy beaches, rocky headlands and two large freshwater ponds.

"There were too many 'wow' moments to single out any one occasion. We think the fact that Cox & Kings had organised everything and there was minimal hiccups so making the whole trip inspirational was a credit to you all. Many thanks."
