Fly to Oslo. Overnight stay at the Hotel Thon Opera. (N)
Fly to Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen and embark your ship for a 7-night cruise. (B, D)
Explore the western and northern coast of Spitsbergen. Krossfjord, Konigsfjord, Monaco Glacier, Nordauslandet, Edgeøya, Hornsund and Bellsund are just a few of the places that you may visit. If ice conditions permit, particularly later in the season, it may be possible to sail through the Hinlopen Straits and explore the eastern part of Spitsbergen and Svalbard.
Distances are relatively short and the seas normally calm, and the itinerary will be planned to take advantage of local ice and weather conditions, as well as wildlife sightings.
Admire the inspiring scenery and search for wildlife from the decks of the ship or during daily excursions by Zodiac or on foot. Search for polar bears, seals and walruses, and explore ice-choked bays and channels. Navigate amid icebergs and visit spectacular cliffs to see colonies of thousands of seabirds. Shore landings offer the chance to hike on the tundra or beaches and observe the Arctic flora, as well as look for fauna including arctic foxes, Svalbard’s unique sub-species of reindeer and breeding eider ducks. The human history can be appreciated with visits to abandoned whaling stations and trapper and polar expedition huts.
Disembark in Spitsbergen and fly home, via Oslo. Certain departures may require an overnight stay in Tromsø or Oslo. (B)
