North America’s only walled city north of Mexico City, Quebec City is one of Canada’s cultural gems. The Old Town, a World Heritage site, has over the centuries seen the continent’s first parish church, first museum, first stone church, first French-speaking university and first business district. During your stay in Quebec City we recommend visiting the Fortifications of Quebec, La Citadelle, North America’s largest fort, where a changing of the guard ceremony takes place at 10am each day during the summer months, and the Basilica Notre-Dame-de- Quebec.

With a unique culinary tradition in North America, Quebec is justly celebrated for its many terroir products: craft beers and wines, ice ciders, Charlevoix lamb, farm-bred game (including deer, bison and wild boar), Gulf of St Lawrence shellfish, cheeses and maple products. Poutine, an unusual mix of thick-cut chips, gravy and cheese curds, is another speciality dish. First created in Quebec in the 1950s, it can now be found throughout Canada.
In winter, Quebec City is covered in a beautiful blanket of snow and ice. The city comes alive during the Quebec Winter Carnival, held from the end of January to mid-February, with night parades, shows and snow sculptures. Other attractions include the Christmas markets, which are set up in the heart of the historic district, and trips to the remote Magdalen Islands.
