Arrive into Whitehorse and collect your hire car from the airport. Make your way to the Westmark Whitehorse Hotel for 2 nights. (N)
Today is at leisure to explore the city and surrounds. This evening, by the light of the evening sun, take a 2-hour guided walking tour in Miles canyon, learning about important areas of the Klondike gold rush, the native wildlife and the history of the region. (N)
Drive 5.5 hours north along the Silver Trail to the small town of Mayo, home to the Na-Cho Nyak Dun First Nation. En route, pass spectacular scenery and the historic towns of Elsa and Keno. On arrival in Mayo, stay overnight at the North Star Motel. (N)
Today, drive 4.5 hours north-east along the Klondike Highway to the former gold rush town of Dawson City. On arrival, stay 2 nights at Aurora Inn. (N)
This morning, join a shared tour of Dawson City and the gold fields. Hear about the history of
the gold rush and learn about how the city has adapted in modern times. The afternoon is at leisure. (N)
Today, travel across the border into Alaska on a 7-hour journey to Tok that includes a ferry and expansive views from the winding Top of the World Highway. On arrival into Tok, stay overnight at Cleft of the Rock Bed & Breakfast (Miner’s Cabin). (N)
Travel back into Canada on a 7-hour journey to Haines Junction. As you get close to the town, the surrounding flatlands will give way to the imposing peaks of the nearby Kluane National Park. Stay 2 nights at the Raven Hotel. (B)
Today, join a 60-minute scenic flight over Kluane National Park with a bird’s-eye view of the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests (subject to weather conditions). Remainder of the day at leisure. (B)
Cross the border back into Alaska today as you drive 4 hours south to Haines. The drive will take you across the 975-metre-high (3,200ft) Chilkat Pass in the Coast Mountains, before dropping down to the Alaskan coast. Stay 2 nights at Lynn View Lodge in Haines. (B)
Today is at leisure to explore the town of Haines and discover the history and culture of the area. Recommended sights include the Sheldon Museum and Cultural Centre. (N)
Travel to Skagway on a 45-minute ferry ride (payable locally) up the Lynn Canal. On arrival, stay 2 nights at Chilkoot Trail Outpost (Cabin suite). (N)
Today you will board the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway for a scenic half-day train journey through a breathtaking panorama of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels and historic sites. (B)
Drive the 3 hours back to Whitehorse in the Yukon. En route, we recommend stopping in Carcross, a historic town with gold rush period buildings and totem poles. On arrival in Whitehorse, stay overnight at the Westmark Whitehorse Hotel. (B)
Return your hire car at the airport and fly home, or continue your holiday in Canada. (N)
