Ras Al-Jinz Scientific and Visitors Centre is located in the Ras Al Hadd Nature Reserve approximately 1 hour's drive from Sur. The centre is located on the eastern shores of the Arabian Peninsula in the Ras Al Hadd Turtle Reserve. The area is world renowned for the nesting endangered green turtle (Chelonia mydas), probably the most important nesting concentration on the Indian Ocean. The centre offers a unique experience - the fascinating scene of sea turtles nesting in a completely natural environment. Guided excursions are conducted every night to view the turtles and witness the nesting process.
Within the Ras Al-Jinz Scientific and Visitors Centre is a small, simply furnished, hotel. There are 31 units including Carapace room and Eco-tents. The Carapace rooms are suitable for families and groups. There are 17 air conditioned twin/double rooms and 2 air-conditioned bunk bedded rooms, all with en suite bathrooms, and equipped with a mini refrigerator, tea & coffee facilities and flatscreen televisions. the Luxury Eco-tents are located on a hillock close by. There are 12 Australian-style tents with air conditioning, en suite bathrooms, dressing table, in room safe, mini refrigerator, tea & coffee facilities and flatscreen television. The tents are wind and rain proo and have been tested in cyclone-hit areas to ensure durability and safety.
Sea-Giants restaurant offers all-day dining that is ideal for a quick lunch or relaxed dining and offers International buffet for lunch and dinner. A coffee shop style a la carte menu and a three course dinner menu is also available.
A gift shop displays a range of local handicraft items, pictures and postcards, and for guests of the Visitor Centre, the night-time guided turtle viewing excursion is included in the room cost. Morning excursions are also available, and should be booked and paid for locally.
