Tyre holidays

Tyre is beautifully situated beside the shores of the Mediterranean. Its most prominent monument is a large archway, through which passes a Roman road. Beside the Roman road lie many intricately carved sarcophagi dating from the Roman and Byzantine periods. The remains of an aqueduct and other large civic buildings are also visible. A kilometre from the main ruins is the Roman Hippodrome, one of the largest of its kind, with a capacity for more than 20,000 spectators.
