There are spectacular sights to see along the full length of Jordan. Visit the ancient citadel of Amman, the Graeco-Roman Temple of Hercules and the Archaeological Museum, showcasing important artefacts from over 100,000 years ago.
On a tailor-made itinerary to Jordan, journey from Amman to the Azraq oasis, where you can visit a Roman fort rebuilt in the 13th century and later used by TE Lawrence during the Arab Revolt. Or drive north through the hills of biblical Gilead to Jerash – a well-preserved Graeco-Roman city hidden for centuries in the sand. Alternatively, travel to Mount Nebo, said to be where Moses first viewed the Holy Land and where early Christians built the Memorial Church of Moses, decorated with mosaics.
A highlight of Jordan is most certainly Petra. This rose-red city was rediscovered by JL Burckhardt in 1812 and created by Nabataean Arabs. We recommend visiting Petra also in the evening to see it by candlelight. Another must-see in Jordan is Wadi Rum, a magnificent desert created by vast valleys and sandstone peaks; its otherworldly landscapes have been used as shooting location for many films including Lawrence of Arabia, Red Planet and The Martian.
You can end your tailor-made itinerary relaxing at one of the luxury resorts at the Dead Sea. From here you can take an excursion to visit the baptism site of Jesus in Bethany on the banks of the river Jordan, or visit the Museum at the Lowest Place on Earth.
