Day 2: Amman • Umm Qais • JerashThis morning travel to Umm Qais to see the ruins of the Decapolis city of Gadara, set in the hills above the Jordan Valley. After a tour and a basket weaving demonstration, continue to Jerash for a lunch cooked by women from a local village. Tour the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Jerash before travelling back to Amman. (B, L)
Day 3: AmmanMorning at leisure. Afternoon city tour including the Jordan Museum, where exhibits include the ‘Ain Ghazal statues, believed to be some of the oldest known human sculptures. This evening enjoy a traditional Jordanian meal with a local family. (B, D)
Day 4: Madaba • Mount Nebo • Shobak • PetraTravel along the Kings Highway stopping en route at Madaba, Mount Nebo and the crusader castle at Shobak before arriving at Petra. Lunch will be taken in a converted house near to Madaba. Stay 2 nights at Mövenpick Resort Petra. Optional evening visit to Petra by candlelight. (B, L)
Day 5: PetraEnjoy a guided tour of Petra, the unique ancient Nabataean city that has been carved into the red rock face. (B)
Day 6: Dead SeaMorning at leisure or optional 4×4 excursion into the desert at Wadi Rum (payable locally). Transfer to the Dead Sea this afternoon and stay 2 nights at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea. (B)
Day 7: Dead SeaDay at leisure. Optional excursion to the baptism site at Bethany where it is believed that John the Baptist baptised Jesus. (B)
Day 8: Jericho • JerusalemDrive to the Allenby Bridge and cross the border into Israel. Continue to Jerusalem stopping en route for a tour at Jericho, thought to be the oldest city in the world. Stay 3 nights at the Harmony Hotel. (B)
Day 9: Jerusalem • BethlehemThis morning take a half-day tour of the Old City of Jerusalem to see the Wailing Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the room of the Last Supper. This afternoon visit Bethlehem, known as the site of the nativity; your visit here will include the Church of the Nativity and Manger Square. (B)
Day 10: JerusalemA day at leisure, with a chance to visit the Israel Museum, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are displayed, or Masada, King Herod’s rock fortress (payable locally). (B)
Day 11: Fly to LondonTravel to Tel Aviv and visit the ancient port of Jaffa, one of the world’s oldest ports. Later, transfer to the airport and fly from Tel Aviv to London with British Airways. (B)
