Israel’s southern-most town, Eilat is a desert resort on the shores of the Red Sea, surrounded by desert mountains and canyons. Archaeological excavations at the western edge of Eilat have uncovered a number of prehistoric tombs, confirming that the region has supported large populations as far back as 8,000 BC. Other attractions in the region include the Coral Beach Nature Reserve, Hai-Bar Yotvata Nature Reserve and Timna Valley Park, home to the oldest copper mines in the world.
