Early morning arrival and transfer to the
centrally located Intercontinental Hotel (or
similar) for 1 night. (N)
City tour including a visit to Panfilov park,
home to a 19th-century Russian Orthodox
church made entirely of wood. Board the
Golden Eagle train for the next 5 nights. (B, D)
Arrive in the capital of Uzbekistan and take
a tour of the city. Visit the old town with
traditional homes lining narrow streets and
see the world’s oldest Qur’an in a small library.
Make visits to the Railway Museum and the
Museum of Applied Arts before boarding the
train to continue your journey. (B, L, D)
Founded in the sixth century BC, Samarkand’s
architecture speaks of the city’s past
importance. Visit Registan Square, the elegant
Bibi Khanum mosque and the 15th-century
Ulag Beg observatory. (B, L, D)
A tour of the atmospheric city of Bukhara
provides a glimpse into the fascinating history
of the crossroads of Asia. A highlight is a visit
to The Ark, the fortified residence of the Emirs
of Bukhara. Travel out of the city to visit the
enchantingly named ‘Palace of Moon-like Stars’.

On reaching Urgench, transfer to the ancient
city of Khiva. Founded over 2,500 years ago,
the city was one of the most important trading
posts on the Silk Road. Discover its impressive
mosques, bazaars and minarets within the city
walls. (B, L, D)
Stop at Ichoguz to see Darvaza’s famous
burning crater in the Karakum Desert,
known to locals as the ‘Door to Hell’.
Tour the rapidly developing city of Ashgabat
with its extravagant fountains, golden
domes and towering new buildings.
Visit the National Museum and Kipchak
mosque. Overnight at Yyldyz Hotel

Take the train to the Iranian border town of
Sarakhs, then cross the border by coach. After
a short tour of Mashhad, re-board the
Golden Eagle. (B, L, D)
Full-day tour of Yazd including the Zoroastrian
fire temple, the 14th-century Friday mosque
and Amir Chakhmaq square. (B, L, D)
Visit the impressive castle, with excellent views
of Mount Hezar. Travel by road to Mahan to
explore the royal palace with its Prince Garden
and tomb followed by lunch. This afternoon
continue to Kerman and visit the Ganjali Khan
complex with its exquisite frescoes. (B, L, D)
Drive into the Shahdad Desert to see the
Kalouts, ever changing sand formations carved
by the wind. (B, L, D)
Full-day tour of Isfahan’s highlights, including
Naghsh-e Jahan Square, the Sheikh Lotfollah mosque, Chehal Sotoun Palace and the Vank
Cathedral in the Armenian quarter. (B, L, D)
Morning tour of Persepolis, Darius the Great's
summer capital, to view the magnificent stone
terrace and palace. Continue to Naghshe-
Rostam with its ancient royal tombs and
Sassanian rock reliefs. Afternoon drive to Shiraz
to view the Quran Gate; the tomb of Hafez, the
celebrated Persian poet; and the citadel. Board
the train for the journey to Tehran. (B, L, D)
After breakfast, disembark the train for the
final time and transfer to the Espinas Hotel
(or similar) for a 2-night stay. (B, L, D)
Visit the impressive Jewels Museum in the
Central Bank of Iran building and Golestan
Palace, a Unesco world heritage site, with
its Versailles-inspired mirror-encrusted
throne hall. Tonight there will be a farewell
