Kandy, once an impregnable fortress, was the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Today, this bustling city is the cultural centre of Sri Lanka and home to the country’s holiest temple, the Temple of the Tooth. The Victoria Golf Club, home to one of the most scenic golf courses in Asia, the exotic Peradeniya botanical gardens and the popular Pinnewala elephant orphanage are a short drive away from Kandy. Kandy’s location in the heart of Sri Lanka also makes it ideal as a gateway to the picturesque hill country.
