The holy Hindu town of Haridwar (“The Gates of God”) is located on the Ganges at the point where the sacred river emerges from the Himalaya. Pilgrims come here to bathe in the cold, clear waters and visit the numerous temples and ashrams. Every twelve years the town hosts the Kumbh Mela which draws millions of worshippers and holy men to what is believed to be the world’s largest religious gathering.
