Full-day tour of the city exploring key sites in both Old and New Delhi. (B)
Take the morning train to Lucknow and transfer to the Taj Mahal Lucknow for 3 nights. In the evening enjoy an optional live Kathak dance performance before a home-cooked Awadhi dinner. (B, D)
Full-day tour of Lucknow beginning with a trip to La Martinière College, which displays a whimsical mixture of styles incorporating gargoyles and other gothic details. Continue to the beautiful Islamic structures of Husainabad and Asafi Imambara before reaching the historically important Lucknow Residency. It was this complex that came under siege during the 1857 Indian Mutiny and cannon holes and impressions can still clearly be seen on the building’s facade. (B)
Morning at leisure. In the afternoon, watch silversmiths, perfumers and market sellers at work on a heritage walk of the city. You will also see delicate Chikan embroidery, a craft that originated in this city. Lucknow is also known for its cuisine, which differentiates from the rest of India. This evening take part in a culinary walk to taste delicacies such as spice-loaded kebabs and sheermal (saffron-flavoured flatbread). (B)
Morning drive to Dudhwa National Park (5 hours) where you will stay 4 nights at the Jaagir Lodge, a luxurious yet rustic oasis located on the edge of the park. The drive itself is beautiful, passing through rural villages, farmlands and verdant countryside. Remainder of the day is at leisure. (B, L, D)
Dudhwa National Park is home to not only tigers and leopards but also the one-horned rhino, which has a healthy population in the park. This morning take a jeep safari in search of these majestic animals as well as elephants, sloth bears and endangered Ganges river dolphins. In the early evening, take an optional walk through the nearby Tanda village to see rural life in India. (B, L, D)
This morning take a further jeep safari in the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, a swamp-like eco-system inhabited by tigers, dolphins and swamp deer as well as over 500 species of bird. Afternoon at leisure. (B, L, D)
Day at leisure or choose from a number of optional activities such as birdwatching walks, photography classes, temple visits or further jeep safaris. (B, L, D)
Drive back to Lucknow before flying to Delhi. Overnight at the Pride Plaza. (B)
