When the British chose Delhi as their capital, they created a new city built in true colonial style. A morning tour of New Delhi includes visits to India Gate; the President's Palace and the pre-Mughal monuments of Iltutmish's tomb, Qutb Minar and the tomb of Isa Khan. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Take a morning flight to Leh and transfer to the luxury exclusive tented accommodation of Chamba Camp, Thiksey for a 3-night stay. Remainder of the day at leisure. (B, L, D)
Morning at leisure. Guided afternoon tour of the old city including a visit to the 17th-century palace and the Shanti stupa. From here enjoy spectacular sunset views while sipping traditional butter tea. (B, L, D)
Early morning guided tour of Thiksey monastery to join in with morning prayers. Remainder of the morning at leisure. After lunch discover some of the monastic treasures on offer in Thiksey including Alchi monastery and Basgo fort. (B, L, D)
Drive to Nubra valley via the Khardung La mountain pass. At a height of 5,580 metres, it
is considered to be the highest motorable pass
in the world. Stay 2 nights at the Chamba Camp, Diskit, the luxurious tents here are all elegantly decorated in traditional style. (B, L, D)
After breakfast, visit the quaint village of Turtuk Admire the traditional houses called nangchung
and taste the delicious apricots grown in the region. (B, L, D)
Take a morning camel-back ride along the soft, white, sandy deserts of Nubra valley. Later return to Chamba Camp, Thiksey for an overnight stay and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. (B, L, D)
In the morning, bid farewell to the land of the lamas as you transfer to Leh airport for your flight back to Delhi. On arrival, transfer to The Imperial for an overnight stay. Take an afternoon city tour of Old Delhi where highlights including the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid mosque and Raj Ghat. (B)
