Sprawled across 4 hectares of land, Vivanta by Taj - Kovalam (previously the Taj Green Cove Resort) is located on a hillock facing the sea. The granite stone cottages, with elephant grass thatched rooftops are light, airy and have modern amenities. A few cottages also have a private balcony with some of them overlooking the hill while others offer a panoramic view of the sea. Other facilities include a speciality restaurant, which serves curries from different parts of the country, a coffee shop and a bar. In addition, the Jiva Spa offers a range of treatments inspired by traditional Indian therapies. The hotel is located about 200 metres from the beach and does not have direct access to the beach.
Overlooking the Old Parade Ground and St. Francis' Church, the Malabar House is a small boutique hotel in the heart of Fort Kochi. All rooms are furnished with antique furniture and artefacts reflecting the diversity of south Indian heritage. The garden, with its rich tropical vegetation, houses a small swimming pool, a stage for cultural events and a restaurant. This hotel is licenced to serve beer and wine, but not liquor.
Set on the shores of Lake Vembanad this delightful villa, which previously belonged to a European lady, has been refurbished and converted into a stunning six bedroom boutique hotel. All rooms and suites have either terraces or verandahs and overlook either the garden or the lake. The rooms and suites with their contemporary minimalist interiors showcase the distinctive work of photographer turned artist Abdul Kalam and are furnished with an eclectic collection of antique objects and period furniture. With Ayurvedic spa treatments, yoga and waterfront dining in lakefront settings, Puity is ideal for those seeking something small, intimate and characterful in the backwaters. This hotel is licenced to serve beer and wine, but not liquor.
Kanam Estate is a 2-hour drive from Kochi (Cochin) and half way to the wildlife reserve of Periyar, near Thekkady, making it the ideal stopover point. There are wonderful guided walks through the rubber plantations, a masseuse is on hand and Kottayam with its profusion of churches, is close by.
