Luxury Private Tour in brief

Day 1: Fly to Mumbai


Day 2: Mumbai

Arrive and transfer to The LaLiT Mumbai (or similar) for an overnight stay. Remainder of the day at leisure. (N)

Day 3: Mumbai

Morning at leisure. Afternoon transfer to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to board the Deccan Odyssey for your 7-night journey. Dinner is served on board this evening. (B, D)

Day 4: Vadodara

On arrival at the ancient royal city of the Gaekwads, formerly known as Baroda, you will be driven to the world heritage site of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, an ancient town full of ruins. You will also visit the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, originally constructed as a school for the maharaja’s children. Later today, witness a live folk performance typical of the region while enjoying high tea at the magnificent Laxmi Vilas Palace – the exquisite residence of the royal family. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Bhavnagar

Arrive into the port city of Bhavnagar where there will be an excursion to Palitana, famed for its spectacular cluster of Jain temples exquisitely carved in marble. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Sasan Gir National Park

The national park is mostly deciduous forest with rocky hills and deep valleys. An expert naturalist accompanies you into the national park, which is the last habitat in Asia for the Asiatic lion. Later, return to the train and proceed to Somnath. In the afternoon, visit the legendary Somnath Temple, plundered, destroyed and re-built several times, and regarded as one of the twelve most sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. (B, L, D)

Day 7: The Little Rann Of Kutch

Enjoy a cross-desert safari across the Little Rann of Kutch, a saline wilderness which is home to the wild ass as well as a multitude of water birds. Visit some of the local settlements and villages, renowned for their traditional embroideries and weaving. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Modhera

Early this morning the train will arrive in Modhera, known for its sun temple, which dates from the 11th century, and the Rani ki Vav stepwell, one of the finest examples of subterranean architecture for water management. Continue to Patola House, where traditional Patola sarees are made. Overnight journey to Nashik. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Nasik

This morning, arrive in the holy city of Nasik, one of the four locations to hold the Kumbh Mela festival and an important pilgrimage site for many Hindus. This morning, visit the fascinating Buddhist Pandav Lena caves that date back to second century BC. Continue to the Grover Zampa vineyards to enjoy a wine tour, followed by lunch before returning to the train. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Mumbai

Morning arrival in Mumbai, where you will disembark. Continue to The LaLiT Mumbai, near the airport, in Mumbai for an overnight stay. (B)

Day 11: To London

Fly to London with British Airways. (B)
