Spend the morning at the village of Kumbalanghi to learn about life in rural Kerala. The village has been set up to preserve and uphold ancient crafts such as coir making, weaving, cigar making and pottery as well as traditional fishing techniques. Observe and partake in a variety of activities before having lunch overlooking the backwaters. Afternoon at leisure to explore Kochi independently before visiting a Kathakali dance studio to see a traditional performance. Arrive early to see the performers apply their colourful makeup. Travel through endless green hilly scenery to Thekkady, a region abundant with spice plantations and the gateway to Periyar National Park, south India’s most popular wildlife reserve. Visit a private spice plantation before a late afternoon cooking lesson to learn the secrets of traditional Kerala cuisine.
