Morning sightseeing in Kathmandu, a characterful and historic city renowned for its master craftsmen and Newari architecture. Explore the heart of the old town, Durbar Square, a cluster of ancient temples, palaces, courtyards and streets that date back to the 12th and 18th centuries. Later visit Swayambhunath stupa, a 2,000 year-old Buddhist temple which towers impressively over the city on a lofty hilltop. Finally, visit the Royal Palace of Patan and its stunning display of Newari architecture. (B)
This morning discover Kathmandu's cultural diversity with visits to Pashupatinath Stupa, one of the holiest Hindu stupas in Nepal and Boudhnath, one of the largest Buddhist centres for Nepal's considerable Tibetan population. This afternoon take part in a cookery lesson in a traditional local home uncovering the secrets behind Nepali's stable dish - dal bhat. (B)
After breakfast drive to Pokhara, a peaceful rural town on the shores of Nepal's second largest lake and surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains. Stay 2-nights at the Temple Tree Resort & Spa. (B)
Morning at leisure before spending the afternoon exploring the gems of the Pokhara Valley. Visit the Bindabaisni temple a popular site for Hindu pilgrims; see the dramatic Seti River gorge and Devi's Falls; and visit a Tibetan village to observe master craftsmen at work. Later take a gentle boat ride on the expansive Phewa Lake. (B)
Drive for an hour to the start point of the
walk. Follow a beautiful forested trail along
level ground to the Gurung Lodge*, where
you will spend 2 nights. Located at 1,450
metres, the lodge is built along the lines of a
traditional Nepalese village, with every room
affording spectacular views of the Annapurna
mountains. After lunch, walk to the nearby
village of Tanchok to visit a local home.
