Arrive in Bengaluru early this morning and transfer to the LaLit hotel to freshen up and enjoy an early lunch before continuing your journey to Mysore. En route visit the spectacular island fortress of Srirangapatna, the former capital of two of South India's most powerful 18th century rulers. Wander around the ornamental gardens and explore the impressive Summer Palace. On arrival in Mysore, check into the Radisson Blu Plaza for a 2 night stay. (L)
Today explore Mysore's main attraction, the Maharajah's Palace, one of India's grandest royal buildings. The palace displays a beautiful syntheses of Hindu and Saracenic architecture with the somewhat garish interiors offering a kaleidoscope of stained glass, mirrors and colour. Roam through the royal gardens before heading back to the hotel, or if you prefer, take an optional walking tour of Mysore and learn about the opulent lives of the Maharajas*. (B)
Leave the city for Kabini, a perfect base to explore Nagarhole National Park which is home to over 400 tigers and the world's largest congregation of Asiatic elephants. In the early evening take a boat ride through the serene backwaters of the Kabini River looking for unique water birds and other wildlife. Stay 2 nights at Serai Kabini (or similar). (B, L, D)
This morning explore the park further with a 4x4 safari. As well as the sizeable tiger and elephant populations, leopards, dhole and sloth bears also reside in the park along with over 300 species of birds. If you still haven't quenched your thirst for the wildlife of Nagarhole, this afternoon you can take a further 4x4 safari (optional). (B, L, D)
Drive to Kodagu (Coorg), home to lush valleys, fast-flowing streams and extensive paddy fields, for 2 nights at the Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa, set on a hillside and surrounded by a 180-acre rainforest. This afternoon take a guided tour of the estate. (B)

Drive to Chikmaglur and overnight at the Hoysala Village Resort. Later, meander around the Hoysala temple complexes of Belur and Halebid, some of the finest examples of Hindu artistic and cultural development in India. (B)

Today immerse yourself in the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire at Hampi, once the capital of one of the largest Hindu empires in Indian history. Explore the quaint village of Anegundi, known for its artisans and social enterprises. Observe daily life in the village and visit the organisations that are helping to provide sustenance for the villagers. Climb Anjaneya Hill, allegedly the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, and visit the Monkey Temple. Spend the afternoon at your leisure before heading to Hemakuta Hill in the early evening to watch the sunset over Hampi. (B)
