Bengalaru (Bangalore) is known as the “Garden City” because of its numerous parks and avenues of jacaranda, gulmohar and cassia. The present location of Bengalaru was chosen by a local chieftain, Kempegowda, in 1537 on land gifted to him by the ruler of Vijayanagar.
