Straddling the Betwa River, Orchha is perhaps one of the most picturesque places that you can visit in India. Founded in 1531, it remained the capital of a powerful Rajput kingdom until 1783. Its golden age was during the first half of the 17th century, when visited by the famous Moghul Emperor, Jehangir. Temples such as the Chatrabhuj and Lakshmi Narayan, along with the Jehangir Mahal Palace are still in fairly good condition and one can get fabulous views of the surrounding countryside, as yet, relatively undiscovered by tourism.
