Accommodation rating: Good Standard

Traditionally a mode for transporting heavy cargo such as coconuts and spices along the Keralan backwaters, a Kettuvallam is a sewn or stitched canoe which also conventionally provided accommodation for the boatmen. Preserving the historic character and style of these traditional boats, a Spice Coast Houseboat cruise offers comfortable accommodation and a relaxed ambience as you drift through the narrow canals, estuaries, mango forests and waterways that make up the backwaters. The boat itself is completely eco-friendly, with jack fruit tree wooden planks providing the decking and furniture and solar panels and vegetable oil providing the power. The sides of the canopy can be lifted to create winged awnings ensuring plenty of shade, a cool breeze and spectacular views of passing scenery. Both of the rooms on board are en suite and there is a private sun deck to observe rural life on the banks unfold before you. Food is provided by the private chef and served on the sun deck. Features: 2 en suite rooms sleeping up to 4, private chef, sun deck.
