Accommodation rating: Good Standard
On the edge of Dehradun, Waltèrre, set among a 1.2-hectare estate with fruit orchards, lily pools and rare exotic plants, is a delightful four-bedroom bungalow / villa. Each of the four simple yet stylish rooms is individually decorated with period style furniture and rare natural history lithographs from the owner's collection. Some rooms feature a separate living space and some overlook either the front garden or the mountains. At Waltèrre the resident chef, who encourages the guests to join him and his team to cook, uses homegrown vegetables, herbs and locally sourced ingredients to prepare Indian, select continental and oriental delicacies. The meals are usually served in the dining area; however, subject to weather, there is the option to dine under the shade of the Jamun tree. The house also has a library with a good collection of books for guests to use.
During winter the rooms are individually heated and as the town experiences frequent power outage, the owners have installed a generator that is switched on within few minutes of the power going out.
Waltèrre should be regarded as a modest character-rich bungalow; however, we believe that the lack of facilities is more than compensated by the charm and style.
