Originally the residence of the Maharaja of Kashmir, The LaLiT Grand Palace Srinagar is set in the heart of the town overlooking the Dal Lake. The palace, which has played host to esteemed guests including Lord Mountbatten and India's first Prime Minister, Pandit Nehru, was built at the turn of the 20th century and has witnessed many historical events. Converted into a hotel in the 1950s, The LaLiT Grand Palace Srinagar, after painstaking restoration and refurbishment, still retains many of its original features with rooms and suites in the palace wing decorated using period-style furniture evoking the charm of a bygone era. The hotel features 113 spacious and tastefully decorated rooms, suites and cottages overlooking either the lush green mature garden or the striking Himalaya mountain range. Facilities include two restaurants, a bar, gymnasium, an indoor pool and a spa offering a selection of eastern and western therapies.
Between October and March accommodation is provided in rooms and suites as the cottages are not suitable during the cold winter months.
