Accommodation rating: Good Standard
Originally the hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Jodhpur, Sardar Samand Lake Palace is a delightful retreat overlooking the seasonal Sardar Samand Lake and the surrounding countryside, in supreme isolation. This converted hotel retains much of its original character and even today features a vast collection of trophies from the various hunting expeditions of the past. The hotel features 18 simple yet elegant rooms furnished in art deco style with some overlooking the expansive lake and others the oriental garden. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool and a restaurant that serves Indian and select continental delicacies. There is also a nature trail within the property that offers an incredible opportunity to spot a myriad of birds, including large flocks of white pelicans, storks, flamingoes, geese and wildfowl (bird watching is naturally subject to the time of the year you are travelling).
Sardar Samand Lake Palace is about 60km and just over an hour from Jodhpur.
