Originally the home of a 19th-century English missionary, Mary Budden Estate, set within the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, has been sympathetically restored and converted into a mountain retreat that retains much of its original charm. The estate features two delightful cottages - the Mary Budden Cottage and the Rhododendron Cottage.
Between these two colonial style cottages on the property there are seven intimate, simple, tastefully decorated rooms with a bukhari (fire place). No two rooms are of the same size and the decor varies in each room.
Built in colonial style, the Rhododendron Cottage is a new addition to the estate. The rooms in this cottage feature large picture windows offering superb views of the estate and the cottage itself is further enhanced with a larger living room and a cosy library.
Each cottage has its own dining room where Indian and select continental dishes, prepared using the freshest of ingredients sourced locally, are served.
Mary Budden Estate is an ideal base for exploratory walks that include visit to the ancient temples and the simple Kumaoni villages in the vicinity.
Mary Budden Estate is usually closed every year between 01 July and 31 August.
