Khem Villas is a jungle camp, located on the outskirts of Ranthambore. It is 200km from Jaipur, which takes approximately 2 hours by train and 4 hours by road. The Sawai Madhopur Railway Station is located 13kms from camp. The camp is established on land that Goverdhan (the owner) purchased in 1989 and converted into a wilderness area planting indigenous trees and creating open grasslands and small water bodies. From camp it is common to see jackals, jungle cats, hyenas, desert foxes and hares as well as a large number of birds.
Accommodation is divided into three categories - rooms, tents and cottages. In the main building the 4 air-conditioned bedrooms are self-contained with en suite bathrooms. The upstairs rooms benefit from large bay windows with views over the surrounding wilderness areas. Tents are erected on a wooden platform and natural materials like bamboo and wood give them a rustic charm. The stand-alone cottages include a spacious bedroom, large bathroom and a private plunge pool with outdoor shower. There is also a large private courtyard and veranda to admire the undisturbed vistas.
Indian, western and oriental cuisine is served in the restaurant, however please note that all food is vegetarian out of respect to nature. The bar serves a selection of alcoholic beverages and cocktails and there is a small fresh water plunge pool for you to cool off in during the heat of the day. In winter months, guests sit around the campfire by the lake and Govardhan tells stories from his 35 years in the jungle.
