With commanding views of the Himalaya, the Mussoorie town and the Doon valley, the 19th-century Kasmanda Palace is set among 1.2 hectares of pine forests, terraced gardens and lawns. Originally part of a church complex, this delightful mansion, built in Anglo-French style, served as a sanatorium for the British armed forces, then as a school, before becoming the summer retreat of the Kasmanda royal family. The lodge, which has been with the family for generations, was partially converted into a hotel towards the end of the 20th century. The 24 elegantly decorated rooms retain some of their old-world charm, are simple and comfortable. Other facilities at this hotel include two restaurants serving local and international cuisine and a badminton court. This hotel must be regarded as simple and one of the best available in the region.
