With spectacular views of the Dal Lake, the Butt's Clermont fleet of four houseboats enjoys a private location on the lake's western shores. Conveniently located with easy access to Naseem Bagh - the beautiful Mughal garden and the famous Hazratbal mosque, the boats were originally bought and put up on the Dal Lake in the early 1940s by Mr Foster, a businessman from Britain. Later on, the fleet of houseboats were gifted by Mr Foster to his Indian friend Mr Butt and the houseboats have been carefully preserved over the last 70 years, playing host to state guests, ambassadors of various countries and many celebrities including Michael Palin, Sir Mark Tully and George Harrison, the former Beatle singer and songwriter. The houseboats, elegantly decorated in traditional style, feature up to three bedrooms that come with en suite facilities and a drawing room. While they are simply furnished, the old-world charm, the secluded location, the glorious views and the courteous staff make up for any lack of facilities. Food on offer is an array of home-cooked continental, Kashmiri and Indian cuisine, with fresh fruit and vegetables being bought and selected each day. Meals can be taken either in the privacy of your suite, the drawing room of your houseboat or in the garden.
