Located high in the majestic Himalaya, Bhutan has some extraordinary places to visit on a tailor-made itinerary. Take a city tour of Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, and visit the National Memorial Chorten, the Simply Bhutan interactive museum, Buddha Point and the Textile Museum. You can also visit the Tashichho Dzong monastery and fortress, which currently houses the throne room and offices of the king and many other governmental offices.
From Thimphu you can follow the two-hour Sangaygang to Wangditse walking trail until you reach the Wangditse monastery or visit the oldest fortress in Bhutan, Simtokha Dzong, built in 1629. Drive onwards to Punakha and enjoy the scenic views as you pass snow-capped peaks rising above deep valleys carpeted with lush green primeval forests. A highlight of the journey is Dochula Pass as it offers 360-degree views of the Himalaya. Once you arrive in Punakha, we recommend you visit Punakha Dzong, a 17th-century fortress and considered one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan.
On a tailor-made itinerary to Bhutan, you must include a visit to one of the most incredible sites of the Himalaya, the Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest). The hike to reach the hillside monastery is five hours, but the effort is well rewarded.
