This coral island stands majestically on a submerged atoll of the same name, approximately 40 minutes flight from Mahe, in the Armirants group of islands. Unlike many atolls where waters over the reef are shallow, the waters around Desroches are deep enough and calm enough for safe swimming and with approximately 50 nautical miles of reef surrounding the island, there are many snorkelling sites to explore. This 6 km long island has a coconut plantation, a small agricultural settlement and a full time team of scientists and conservationists who monitor the island’s turtles, giant tortoise, birds and marine life.
