A tiny coral private island, Denis Island lies 95km north of Mahe and is just a 25-minute flight away. Individual air-conditioned villas and cottages, 25 in total, stretch along the beach at the north-western tip of the island, separated from each other by gardens and hedges, each with a shady terrace on which to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the island, its seclusion accentuated by the lack of televisions or mobile phone access.
Being an all-inclusive property, you will have plenty of opportunity to sample the refined cuisine of Denis Island resort. The chef prepares daily succulent dishes and creative buffets, with live cooking stations serve food fresh from the island's estate and fished from the surrounding seas for breakfast and lunch. Formality is cast aside, as meals can be enjoyed in your room, on the beach, in the terrace dining room, or even in the wine cellar, with its fine selection of new and old world wines to complement your sumptuous meal.
When not sunbathing on the beach or by the pool, the lagoon holds great fascination, with its vast array of tropical fish and where a morning spent snorkelling will unveil myriad life-forms and stunning backdrops. A wander through the forest will reveal the island's flora, and be accompanied by the echoes of land and sea birds calling. Away from the resort, a visit to the old village craft workshops, farm and the giant tortoise colony may be enjoyed at the customary leisurely pace. When you feel a little more active, a jog around the island, a game of tennis, snooker and canoeing around the island are some of the activities right on hand, and should you wish to venture further afield, the hotel can organise for day excursions to an outer island.
