Morning city tour of Hanoi, with the chance to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter, visit the city's museums and temples, or learn about Vietnamese revolutionary history at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. In the afternoon drive north to Halong City, and stay 1 night at the Paradise Suites Hotel. (B, L)
Board the Bhaya Classic cruise ship for a 2-night journey on Halong Bay. Visit remote islands and fishing villages, with the chance to swim and kayak in the bay. Onboard activities include cooking demonstrations, tai chi lessons and squid fishing, and a range Vietnamese cuisine will be served. (B, L, D)
Disembark from your cruise this morning and drive south to Ninh Binh, a region famous for its attractive natural scenery and historic sites, most notably Hoa Lu, which was once the capital of Vietnam. Stay at the Tam Coc Garden Hotel for 1 night. (B)
Take a morning sampan (traditional wooden boat) ride through the But cave complex. Afternoon drive to Mai Chau and for a 3-night stay at the Mai Chau Ecolodge, situated on a hill surrounded by mountains, forests and rice paddies.

Spend your time in the Mai Chau visiting local villages in the surrounding highlands, then drive out to the Pu Long Nature Reserve, which protects an area of its forests, rice terraces and limestone hills and is a wonderful place for walking. (B, L, D)
Drive north back into the Red River delta, and visit the small village of Ky Son for a guided walk round the village followed by lunch and a cooking demonstration. Afternoon bike ride in the surrounding countryside then drive to Hanoi. Stay 1 night at the Mövenpick Hotel. (B, L)
