Things to do in Can Tho (Mekong Delta)
Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary
The Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary protects a huge population of birds, including storks, egrets, herons and pelicans. The best time to see the birds is either early in the morning just after dawn, or in the late afternoon when the birds begin returning to the sanctuary after a day out searching for food in the surrounding countryside and delta. A tall wooden viewing platform has been erected within the sanctuary to provide the best viewing opportunities and minimise disturbance of the birds.
Cai Rang floating market
The lively market of Cai Rang is the largest floating market in the Mekong delta, and best visited very early in the morning when trade activity is at its peak. The market largely consists of numerous small boats selling various different fresh seasonal produce from the delta, including fish, exotic fruits and cut-flowers. Boats often display their speciality by attaching one of their products to a long pole extending high above the boat.
