Thailand has a fascinating Buddhist culture with many beautiful temples and lush mountain scenery in the north, spectacular beaches and islands in the south, and energetic Bangkok and its surroundings in the centre.
On a tailor-made itinerary, begin in Bangkok for a sample of Thai culture. The capital is an exciting mix of beautiful ancient Buddhist temples, golden royal palaces, riverside houses on stilts, traditional markets, and a modern city of skyscrapers and malls. Delve into the history and culture of Thailand by visiting the National Museum, Wat Pho (home of the giant reclining Buddha), riverside Wat Arun and the Grand Palace complex for a glimpse of the Emerald Buddha. Or, if you consider yourself as more of a foodie, enjoy street food in the many winding streets, head to Chinatown and one of many bustling food markets, enjoy sedate dinner cruises on converted rice barges, or journey further out of town to visit fascinating railway markets and floating markets.
Escape the capital and travel to Ayutthaya, once the powerful ancient capital of Siam. The site is now a Unesco world heritage site and what still remains provides a glimpse of life during the four centuries that the kings of Ayutthaya ruled.
Journey north towards the beautiful city of Chiang Mai, where you will find over 300 Buddhist temples. Alternatively, head south to the coast’s many dazzling beach resorts. Choose between the traditional resort of Hua Hin, relaxing Khao Lak, the fishing town of Krabi, the more isolated island of Ko Lanta or lively Ko Samui.
